OVERSEAL, called also Little and Spital Seile, was one of the lordships given, in the reign of Henry III, by William de Meisham, in marriage with his daughter, to Wm. de Appleby, together with a park, a wood, and a mill, called Woodlandes. The services of this and another manor, the same Wm. de Meisham, about 1250, gave to Merevale Abbey, Warwickshire. A third manor was afterwards held by Lucian de Deserto, and a fourth by the Vernons, of Haddon, Derbyshire. But in the early part of the 13th century, all these manors were held under Wm. de Ferrariis, Earl of Derby. In 1205, a curious agreement was made between Lucian of "Scheyl Minor" and the rector, respecting the maintenance of a resident chaplain, on his estate, to celebrate mass in the chapel there, three days a-week. In the 16th century, Sir Wm. Gresley, of Drakelowe, bought this manor, and in the following century, it passed to the Morewoods, of Netherseal."

Lakenheath

Which is an AirForce base near Thetford in Essex. I wanted a town than ended in H so I could have:

"Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump",
which is in Canada. What a great name for a town.

In Canada, a buffalo jump was a cliff with a tapered fence to funnel stampeding animals over the edge to kill them. It was used by the plains indians before firearms.

Bringing it back to a local discussion, I can think of other ways in which heads might get smashed!

But since it ends in P, have we had Peacock Town?

ECCLESBOURNE VALLEY RAILWAY

The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway Association is an organisation of enthusiastic volunteer members who are working with WyvernRail plc to re-open the Wirksworth to Duffield railway line and to see it in use for the greater enjoyment of all railway enthusiasts and citizens and businesses in the surrounding area.
The valley is an unspoiled area of countryside, some 10 miles in length, at the southern end of the Derbyshire Peak District. It is in close proximity to Matlock and Bakewell, Chatsworth House, Carsington Reservoir,

Now you've got me, Sue. Where is/was Northend? (You've probably mentioned it before, but if so I've forgotten!)
