The only structure I seem to remember was a brick-built pillbox on Mansfield Rd. Heanor, about a third of the way up - on the opposite side and just below the upper entrance to Howitt St. The box must have been removed in the 1950s/'60s. during the building of the housing estate. Presumably there were more pillboxes than this one erected to support defensive lines along the roads, railways or canals.
