Mr Thomas Mayfield J.P., of Fair View, Heanor, he was the manager of Messrs I & R. Morley’s.

Hello Keith,

If you are located in the Heanor area then the next time you visit Tesco you have found Fair View. The Tesco boundary that is furthest down the High Street is almost or possibly on the line of Fair View. I have found Fair View by using,

http://www.old-maps.co.uk

and the directions in suzard's posting. Once you have got the Heanor map on screen, zoom in, come from the Market Place, down Market Street onto Red Lion Square then down High Street. Fair View is about 100 yards down High Street, on the left hand side.

regards Phil

Hi Keith,

I have the Heanor street names book and Fairview is in it. Is says this about it....

'This row, which was built by Messrs. I. and R. Morleys, was demolished in the 1960s. Probably it had a pleasant view to the West.'

Not a lot to go on but at least its been listed in a book somewhere.

A friend's grandmother lived on Fair View -and she has (somewhere - and is looking for) a photograph of the road.
FairView, apparantly had railings around it -some houses were terraced, but not others. The row was originally built (as stated in Heanor Street names) for staff and management of Morleys.
When the photograph turns up I will ask Robert to post it.
A little snippet -in many old Ripley & Heanor newspapers there are odd little comments /letters written to the paper and signed "Fair View"

In relation to Keith's original comment that he thought he had seen the name somewhere on a building, this is not really surprising - it is a good, and therefore not unusual, name for a house with a good view!

Sue, it would be great if you could find a "new" photo of Fair View.

Robert,

Apparantly there is a good photograph of Fair View (which was a road -not just one house) in one of the Society's books printed in the 1980's -the road was demolished in 60's or 70's

There's a photo on page 5 of "Around Old Heanor". It looks to be a good long street with about 2 dozen homes.

The railings shown at the top of the road were still there in 1950's -at least.

My great grandparents lived at 19 Fairview. My grandfather Charles Edward Bakewell was born there in 1902. My mum and her brother and sister were evacuated there during the 2nd world war.
If anyone has any photos of Fairview I would love to see them.
