Please help a 92 yr old!
posted on: 11/17/2007 11:24:11 AM

Hello, this is my first time on here, I hope you can help.

I am looking for as much info and preferably photos of a George Frederick Fletcher born in Heanor on 28 Aug 1913 (I believe). He lived on the High street and worked as a butcher (Jacksons Butchers) and later worked as either a bailiff and/or private detective. He used to go on late night walks with friends through shipley park. He married Molly in 1937 at Mount St methodist chapel. Molly remembers one friend was a Fred Pollard. George passed away in 1968 from Cancer.

I am searching for any information possible as Molly, his widow is now 92 and has no photos of him following a dreadful mistake many years ago when she accidently threw out a wrong bag, containing ALL photos, including their wedding album.

Molly means a great deal to me and for me to be able to find ANY information or better still a photograph would be priceless. She still thinks of him every day and has such affection for him, I would LOVE to be able to show her a photo.

I have known Molly since I was in the brownies and am now 32 years old, so I'm sure you can imagine how important this is to me. I REALLY hope you can help!!!! Unfortunately the above is as much information as Molly could remember, and even then she may have been a bit wishy washy on dates (I know this isn't helpful).

Being a typical child of the techie age,I thought google would answer all my questions but having spent an hour searching I'm still not sure where to start so thought I'd ask for some help!!

Help!!!
Thanks
Lisa

If you could post the date of their marriage, we could look through the local newspaper archives there may be a report and with luck a photograph! Also there may be a report of george's funeral.

Ripley & Heanor News
July 19th 1968
PLUS PHOTO
WELL-KNOWN HIKER
Mr. G. F. Fletcher
A Heanor man who loved the wide-open spaces, died at Heanor Memorial Hospital on Friday week in the person of Mr. George Frederick Fletcher of Burns St aged 55.
Born at Heanor, Mr Fletcher was employed as a butcher for 30 years, but latterly had worked for Vic Hallam Ltd, Langley Mill. He was extremely interested in hiking, and most weekends were to be found following his popular pastime in Derbyshire and Wales with relatives and friends. In his younger days he belonged to various hiking clubs and gave admirable assistance to the Scouts and cubs of Langley Mill and Aldercar.
Mr. Fletcher is mourned by a widow, one son, two daughters and three grandchildren.
The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. P. Wrenn (vicar of Loscoe) followed by cremation at Markeaton. In deference to his request the ashes were scattered on Kinder Scout his favourite Derbyshire beauty spot.

The print out of the photo was very poor, but Heanor Library may have the original newspapers.
