5th Nov 1926 R/H
INTERESTING PRESENTATIONS AT HEANOR
FIRE BRIGADE HONOUR LATE CAPTAIN
An interesting event took place at Heanor Fire Station on Tuesday evening when practically the full complement of members throughout the area were each presented by their late captain, Mr John Holbrook, J.P. with a large size photograph of the Brigade, taken at his residence, Elmsfield House, on Aug 24th last, on the occasion of his resigning the position in favour of Mr Archer, the new surveyor to the Council.

7th Feb 1930 R/H
Imposing Funeral at Heanor
The Late Mr. John Holbrook J.P.
The esteem in which the late Mr John Holbrook, J.P., of Elmsfield House, Heanor, was held was clearly manifested on Friday, when the remains were conveyed to their last resting-place in the Cemetery of the town of his birth and life-long residence.

well done robert , buying the card .I hope I didn't increase the competion / price by mentioning it here .The same vendor had a postcard of crosshill / codnor station that made £63 and one of Shipley Hall £18 ,so yours seems a bargain now you have to find the house

Ice, the person who told you that would most probably be referring to John Holbrook

Its not on Mansfield Road - the house we were thinking of is called Ashtrees or something like that.

Then on the way home it struck me as blindingly obvious as to where it is/was!

Elmsfield Avenue!!!!

I have confirmed this from the Origin of Heanor Street Names, but need to call in next time I'm in the area to check whether it is still there and try to get an up to date photo to match the postcard.

John Holbrook was the surveyor for the Butterley Company and also for the Urban District Council. I am sure that the description 'architect' would fit him just as well.
