replied on: 7/2/2008 1:53:55 PM Extract taken from the Langley Mill Primitive Methodist Church record of progress regarding fund raising for payment of the chapel debt: John Holbrook, Esq., Elmsfield House, kindly placed his grounds at our disposal for a garden party, "only on the condition that we ourselves work with the idea of making it a success by our own efforts," and the results of the garden party held on Wednesday, June 20th,1923,quite delighted our host. We were always led to believe that Elmsfield House was on the corner of Grace Crescent. |

replied on: 7/3/2008 3:32:16 PM Ice Sorry I got my Crescent and Avenue mixed up From the same publication a further Garden Party is advertised and reads: Garden Party, Wednesday, June 25th, 1924. In the grounds adjoining Elmsfield House, Heanor (by kind permission of John Holbrook.,Esq) I think the house in question was definitely on the corner of Grace Crescent fronting Mansfield Road Heanor and was once owned by Ernie Slater (Slaters Glass) |

replied on: 7/3/2008 5:35:39 PM Paul / Ice, Elmsfield House is on the corner of Grace Crescent and Mansfield Rd its facing Mansfield Rd, the road was widened and maybe Grace Crescent was built after the house? We have garden parties for 1910, 1923 and 1924 so maybe if I look at 1909 for land sales or planning permission? What do you think? |
