I've had an enquiry which has left me a bit puzzled. Can anyone help?

"My granddad's family I think are from Aldecar. My mum lived at Tinsley Rd, New Eastwood, and we used to go to a place every day in the summer called "The Gudgen". It was a narrow deep trail of fast water and we loved it. I am sure I can also remember a lock there. Recently I tried to visit Tinsley Rd, but its all blocked off. Could you kindly tell me if The Gudgen is still there and how can I get to it?

I'm also trying to find out where 11 Mansons Fields, Langley Mill, was. It's where my grandmas family the Oxleys used to live."

I'm afraid I've never heard of The Gudgen or Mansons Fields.

Stanley

I thought it might be Gudgeon rather than Gudgen.

But tell me more - what was the "gudgeon hole against the canal" - was this part of the river or part of the canal? Was t a particularly good place for catching gudgeon? And (if you know) is it still there?

The Purpose of the Gudgeon Hole was to remove the water from the higher level and with the use of Sluice Gates fill the lower level to lift the Barge I recall the one at New Eastwood you could walk over the Co-op fields to it from Milnhay Road.Think Gudgeon was a local name for it.
