"The King's England - Derbyshire" by Arthur Mee

I have recently acquired a copy of this book published in 1937. It has 3 pages covering Heanor and mentions Samuel Watson, William and Mary Howitt, and Henry Garnett.

The book mostly discusses churches and I though you might be interested in the following snipets

"It is possible that Samuel Watson may have been present in his teens at the funeral of John Heiron rector of Breadsall. He was turned out of his pulpit at the Resoration. They laid him here in 1682".

"The oak font-cover was given was given by the parents of one child who was baptised along with 250 others in 1908".

"A window in memory of a brave sufferer, Jane Burns, showing St Lawrence with his grid, St. Catherine with her wheel, St. Elizabeth with roses, St. Andrew and St. Martin".

" The glory of the churchyard is a beautiful Celtic cross, looking proudly across the marketplace, a memorial to the men who died for peace".
