replied on: 1/25/2006 3:28:09 PM Jenny, this has confirmed a posting on langley Mill-Ironworks Reopened after being dormant for 6 years by a well known firm from Derby for manufacture of stove grates. This was 1895 so must be Pickersgill and Frosts! |

replied on: 2/24/2006 2:24:14 PM Jenny I have childhood memories of Mr.John Arthur Frost.J.P.He was a real Gentleman, very much a lookalike of King George 5th.I lived at the bottom end of Thompson Street and although he may have been retired, Mr. Frost would walk to the foundry on most days, up Dunstead Road, down Thompson Street to Edward Street and then down the jitty at the back of our house onto Eastview Terrace (Penders Row) and into work. He always wore a fresh flower in his buttonhole which my sister regularly used to beg.I would only be 9yrs old then, but also remember Harry Frost, it may have been his son .I believe he used to live on Mansfield Road,a large house halfway up the hill on the left-hand side. replied on: 8/3/2007 4:43:48 AM Hi Lucinda,I replied to your message stating i knew of all the Robinson's in your autograph book except Geo,however ive now found that (Robert George Fox Robinson) brother of Winnifred & Lillian dropped his first name & went by G.F Robinson as seen in his attendance to his father's memorial at St Lawrence church 1914,so i feel confident he is the Geo Robinson referred to.Ian |

replied on: 3/24/2008 1:12:32 PM Hullo I'm a late arriver at the Clara Holbrook autograph book discussion. She was the daughter of Harriet Holmes and John Holbrook. The John Holmes in the autograph book was probably her grandfather and my great grandfather; Mary Holmes would have been his second wife, widow of Joseph Pollard, whom he married in 1886. I remember being taken to meet Ella Lovatt, Clara's younger sister, in the fifties: she was elderly, of course, but very imposing. |

replied on: 4/3/2008 6:15:55 PM bailey is not an uncommn name . I have Baileys in my tree who originated from Staffordshire and settled in Denby/Heanor/Langley Mill area in latter half of the 1800's -they were potters and came to work at the Pottery in Denby and then Langley Mill. Bailey is a fairly nationwide name -and of course in the 1800s people moved a lot more than we give them credit for |

replied on: 4/6/2008 4:55:32 PM I have joined the Clara Holbrook autograph topic rather late. She was the daughter of my grandmother's sister, Harriet. the John Holmes in the book would have been her maternal grandfather, and the Mary Holmes his second wife. I remember meeting Ella Holbrook (later Lovat) some time in the 50s - a rather grande dame,if I recall. |
