Marlpool Railway Station
replied on: 8/17/2004 6:52:43 PM

Does anyone out there have a photo or postcard of Marlpool Railway Station? If so, the History Society would love to borrow or buy it (or just take a copy), as it is the only station in the area that we don't have a picture of.

The station was on the only stop between Ilkeston and Heanor Gate on the Great Northern line, and was open from 1891 to 1928. It's correct name was "Marlpool for Shipley Hall." It was actually far closer to Shipley than Marlpool, and, if you think about it, there wasn't much at Marlpool in those days anyway. It was built specifically at the request of the Miller-Mundys of Shipley, so that visitors could arrive by train if they wished.

If anyone has a picture, that would be great!
