It's possible that it could have been one of the other pubs, my Grandad had been a teetotaler (very unusual for a coal face miner!) since he met my grandmother sometime before the first world war (she was a fierce member of the 'blue ribboners') so it was probably something that he had been told but it was a story he always he used to tell me as we walked past the Great Northern.
