Langley Mill Bombed during WW2?

Can anyone confim something I remember my mother telling me when I was younger/

She said that during the second world war several bombs were dropped in one of the fields where the Council Estate was subsequently built.

I also remember her telling me that at the time there was a rumour that the pilot was a German who had worked at the 'Wagon Works' and that he had dropped the bombs in the field rather than hurt people he had worked with
