Langley Mill Co-op Shield, circa 1916
replied on: 10/8/2004 8:15:33 PM

Here's an interesting photograph, which is captioned on the rear "Langley Mill Co-op Shield, about 1916."

The caption on the rear also lists all the people in the picture. (For the females, I don't know whether the names in brackets are maiden names or married names - whichever it is, the names not in brackets are the opposite - I'm sure a reader will be able to advise!)

From left to right:

Back Row

George Ward, Walter Grainger, Herbert Pollard, Ega (Edgar?) Stamway, Dorcas A...., Herbert Whysall, William Angell, S. Clark Snr, S. Clark.

Middle Row

Tilly Canlin, Edie Large (Brooks), Charlotte Greensmith (Pollard), E. Flintoff (Clark), Albert Angell, Emmie Clark (Pynegar), Mrs Saxton (was Purdy), Mrs Fred Greensmith (was Darrington), Gladys Weston (Lomax).

Front Row

Winnie Teather (Rawson), Babina Clark, Irene Ward, Suie Flintoff (Large)

So, I hope somebody finds the photo of use. But..... does anyone know what the Co-op Shield was all about? And can anyone tell where this photo was taken?
