Langley Mill Lion

I've been told a circus lion once escaped from a circus held on the land which eventually became Vic Hallam's front, approximately across from the old Purdy shop. The lion chased a man up a nearby lamp-post, which happened around the 20s to early 1930s. Does anyone have any further information concerning the event?
