Cromford Canal Devastation.
replied on: 11/22/2004 9:03:17 PM

In the early 1990s, after a pleasent walk along the Erewash Canal side, my wife and i arrived at the three canals junction. What a sorry site for sore eyes.
There was the itsy-bitsy marina, but above all, the complete destruction of the in-filled Cromford Canal. To say our flabbers were completely ghasted, is to put it mildly. Our proposed journey towards Codnor Castle was forcibly postponed.

The loss of the Canal was/is a tragic blow for Langley Mill, financially, visually and scenically. Perhaps when the old Canal is once more restored to its former pristine glory, the future of Langley Mill will look a little rosier?

Is it true that the canal will perhaps be re-dug out again by Countryside volunteers and restored (hopefully) to its past glory and if so, when?
Azzabuv.
