Ulf's Shipley
replied on: 1/25/2005 11:41:56 AM Ulf's Shipley Homestead - 1000 A.D. (Ulf Fenisc - see Shipley History). Suggestions welcome for deducing where Ulf's original settlement was established. Would it have been very near to a water supply, such as the small stream which runs just inside the Southern boundary of John's Wood, leading to the Eastern edge of Mapperley Reservoir, or actually built on the then higher ground site of the ruined Shipley Hall. At that time, the whole area was well forested. Or could it have been on a similar site, somewhere on the Shipley area map above? Here's a chance, perhaps, to resolve a piece of unknown local history. All suggestions welcome. Azzabuv. |
