Shipley Hall staff records, c 1865?
replied on: 2/6/2005 5:54:03 PM

I just wandered in here to ask a general question about Shipley Hall and tripped over all this amazingly detailed information!
But I agree.... they were posh b**gers!

I was thinking about staff that were employed from the locality, that wouldn't necessarily be on the census.

My g.gr.father supposedly worked at Shipley Hall as a gardener, so I would like to find out i) if he did; and ii)more about the Shipley Hall gardens.
From what I have read, they were supposedly quite something, in keeping with the image of the Hall. Also, if the Hall was the setting for Lady C.'s Lover, just what were the grounds like!!

I have another family connection who was a gamekeeper from Mapperley. Is it likely that he too was employed by the Hall?
