What can people tell me about Peacock Town.

As a kid, I remember that Peacock Town was an area that other kids told you not to go to. I never really knew why, or even exactly where it was.

I was reading a book the other day, based around the war time, where the adult author stated that he would take a wide detour to avoid going through Peacock Town, because of the reputation of the people who lived there.
