Langley Mill/Aldercar School Teachers
replied on: 4/14/2005 3:49:21 PM Your post has really refreshed my memory-I was having difficulty with memory of Aldercar Infants. Miss Clarke! She was headmistress when I was there, she only used to have half a dozen "chosen" ones in her classroom, which was a small room off the main "top" class room-her grey hair was already thinning when I was there.Mrs Weekley I remember-Mrs Stenson was there after my time, but her daughter was in my class. There was also Miss Hodgkiss and Miss Greenfield/Greensmith? who emigrated to New Zealand. We were very impressed by her going to live there as we had seen newspaper cuttings of New Zealand as we followed the Queen's Commonwealth tour-we knew it was further away than Nottingham!!!I think the teachers had a cushy time as our afternoons seemed to be taken up with listening to the wireless, followed by putting our heads on our desks for the afternoon nap-woe betide if you were caught making any movement! I remember Miss(Mrs?) Gratton at Langley Mill Girls school before the boys joined us-she was very strict and had a deep voice (maybe she was a smoker??????) |
