Where was D. H. Lawrence
replied on: 6/3/2005 6:27:18 PM

Reading Bert's life history on a Lawrence Web page recently, with names/dates given of himself and Family plus a few friends, i decided to check the 1891 Census for his then address and household members in Eastwood.

I searched his place of birth on Victoria St; when he would have been aged 5/6 in 1891, but no Lawrence Family. I then searched Walker St; where he moved to when he was 8 - no Lawrence. I then scrutinised every personal name and street in Eastwood for 1891. Still no Lawrence Family.
In the 1901 Census, his address was given as being on Walker St; Eastwood.
Perhaps they were away visiting someone, somewhere else on the 1891 Census night?

Has anyone any further information or ideas on the Lawrence Family's apparent absence from their given home on that Census night?
Azzabuv.
