Robey Fields Farm.

Thanks for that information, though, as always, it raises more questions.
I am beginning to build up a reasonable mental picture of the Smalley area, only having been there once, but I haven't come across The Dumbles.

The 1839 OS map shows a Robey Field just NW of Kidsley Park but no Dumbles.

I tried a google and came up with this from an article by John Flint of Heanor, in the Derbyshire Evening Telegraph, 2 March 2004. He refers to a Jack Downs who ....' used to talk about life in Denby when he was a young man. He lived in an old cottage at the end of Dumbles Lane, which was a lane at the end of Chapel Row.'

Given that Robey Field appears to be not far from Denby, as the crow flies, could there be connection?
