New Houses

Is Micheal House School a recent construction or is it the old school house extended? I have obtained from the old-maps site a couple of aerial views of the area. They have been subjected to a touch of computer jiggery-pokery to produce larger images.

From the aerial shots, date not known, the area of the Top Hard Drift and sidings appear a shade of brown unlike the rest of the ground which is in various shades of green. After viewing the images I would say that the brown area looks the best candidate for the housing development. The American Adventure Park is clearly visible in the images. The old GNR branch line is well marked by the edge of the tree line.

The old school house I remember was a 3 or 2 storey structure with the top floor having a lot more windows than the lower floors. The school was in a small copse near to the long gone level crossing, on the diagonally opposite corner to what is now the Lakeside Business Centre. The Lake has been added since the early 70s.

I really must make the effort to walk the district again. That should bring back a flood of memories.

regards Phil.
