Pathe Newsreel
replied on: 6/28/2005 12:16:06 PM These short Wartime Newsreels were shown every week throughout Britain between the films, at practically all Cinemas. They enthusiastically showed all the recent allied successes on all the fighting fronts and were described with high enthusiasm by the regular, very emotional voiced news-reader. They seemed to be highly propagandatised in some cases, this being for the morale of the viewing public. If the British, especially, had suffered a set-back on a War-front, the news-reader would describe the few scenes allowed to be shown (always a few, concerning military set-backs) in a deep, solemn voice, then at the end, issue a grave warning to the enemy, such as - "Don't worry, Fritz/Krauts/Bucket Heads/Nips/Japs/Failed Yellow Perils Etc. - Tommy WILL be back and sooner than you think". Then the newsreel ended with soul up-lifting music. If the Germans had ever landed in England, he'd have been the first one they shot. Good bloke. Azzabuv. |
