street games
replied on: 7/7/2005 7:22:32 AM "Jack Jack shine your light"-played on dark winter evenings-the person who was fortunate enough to have a torch had to hide (usually on the rec )-the "finders" counted to 50 before shouting "Jack, Jack, shine your light" The hider would then flash the torch three times and the finders set off to catch him.The hider didn't have to stay in one place -so "Jack Jack" was shouted at intervals-this game would last all evening until the hider was caught , we had to go home to bed or we fell down scrambling around on the dark rec. During cold dark evenings we would also be out on the street with winter warmers-a tin can filled with glowing coals from the home fire, to which a long wire handle had been attached -we used to swing them around over our heads-it was quite an art to get the correct speed so the coals didn't fall out-quite dangerous, but I don't remember anyone getting burnt! |
