Robert, I've got Auntie on the case!!!! In 1940's to make contact with the British Legion you had to go to see Billy Tame on Milnhay Road.
In 1940's/early 50's the British Legion club was somewhere round the back of Edgar Parkers shop (opp Vic Hallams), where there is now a small industrial estate-weekly dances used to be held there.Aunt remembers the house which stood on the site of the "new" legion, but not who lived there-but she knows someone to ask!
Another subject-the Erewash Hotel-rumours it was to be turned into flats! Latest rumour -it has been bought by a previous owner of the Crown in Heanor (now "Ce Sera") and is to be renovated and turned into an "old fashioned" pub! Will be worth a visit if that is so!
