Mapperley Colliery Pit Tip
replied on: 11/30/2005 4:28:44 PM

Hello All,

I was born and bought up in Mapperley Village, and I can remember so very plainly the big black ugly Pit Tip of the old Mapperley Colliery at the top of Park Hall Lane, my grandad, Tom Davis, who was a miner at Mapperley and Woodside collieries, always used to take us walks up to the pit tip in late summer to pick blackberries, the tip is now gone, and its all fields again, but it was a BIG part of Mapperley's history, i was wondering if anyone had any photos from the 1970's of the pit tip, especially viewed from Mapperley Village, I also remember there was a company who made fairground rides in the old pit yard, anyone else remeber that, i can also remember as a youngster, seeing and hearing the coal lorries going along the old railway in the 1970's between Mapperley Brook and Park Hall ...... ahhh Memories !!!!!
