Depending on when we are talking about, they were at one time adjacent parishes.

The parish of Heanor used to cover all of Loscoe and Codnor, while the parish of Pentrich covered Ripley up as far as Codnor Gate.

So, while it might be unlikely that someone born at Langley Mill, in the parish of Heanor, would be baptised in Pentrich Parish, for someone at Codnor a trip to Ripley would be easier than a trip to Heanor.
