Closure of Langley Mill Police Station
replied on: 1/10/2006 9:22:59 AM

Mr. John George Steeples
14th Jun 1929 R/H
With much regret we have to announce the passing of Mr John George Steeples, retired policeman, of the Market Place, on Wednesday, at 68 years of age, after about six weeks painful suffering. Deceased served in the police force for 28 years. During that period he was stationed at Calow, Shirebrook, Duffield, and at Heanor for 23 years. Since his retirement he was caretaker of the recreation ground, but owing to feeble health had to resign. The funeral takes place at Heanor Cemetery to-morrow (Saturday). Deceased leaves a widow, six daughters, and four sons.

Also in 1930 a retired policeman (Ling) aged 73 tried to kill him-self “being stationed for some time at Langley Mill”
