Slacks of Heanor
replied on: 1/12/2006 11:12:12 PM

This problem is now solved more by sheer luck than judgement. I found John Slack, a 'brick-maker', and Sarah, on 1851 census. Then found Thomas, a 'retired-brickmaker'. It would make sense that father and son had the same occupation. The other John's father, William had his occupation, on John's baptism records, given as 'collier'. I now have the parents of John as Thomas and Millicent and have found a marriage for Thomas Slack and Millicent Waters, on May 27, 1795, at Pentrich. The only record I can find for Millicents birth gives the date 20 October 1791, Pentrich, but this is only 4 years before the marriage. Can anyone help on this please? Also, if this is the correct Millicent, further information on her family would be gratefully appreciated.
