Heanor Welfare
replied on: 1/30/2006 11:55:39 PM Here goes, I've been hiding for a while. In the early 60s the welfare boundary was formed by the footpath from Ilkeston Road to Lockton Avenue, the back fences of the houses on Lockton Avenue to Ilkeston Road then along Ilkeston Road. If I remember correctly there were/are four houses then the fire station on Ilkeston Road. The welfare grounds started from between the last house and fire station site. Entering the grounds from Ilkeston Road there were two tennis courts then a cricket pitch with a football pitch next to the cricket pitch. The two pitches arranged in a L shaped pattern. Changing rooms/pavilion next to the football pitch. Not sure but possibly a bowling green in front of the welfare. It was a bit of a strange place because my family never made use of any of the facilities even my father worked at Coppice Colliery. regards Phil |
