RECORD 227 ROAD SAFETY EXHIBITS
There was a record entry 227 exhibits in the road safety competition organised by Heanor Road Safety Committee, which is open to the public at Heanor Town today.
At the opening last night awards were presented by Superintendent D. Burgoyne, of Ilkeston Police, and Councillor G. H. Large chairman of Heanor Urban Council, presided. The judges were: Mr. T. Wrigley, Principal of Derby and District College of Art, and Mr J. A. Peck, county art administor.
In their remarks the judges said they were surprised at the high standard.
The first three winners in each class will be sent to the East Midlands semi-finals of the competition.
The first award winners were: 14-15 Lynn Parkin (Heanor Gate Secondary School); 11-13, Richard Davidson (Heanor Gate Secondary); 8-10, Kevin Hope (Langley Mill Junior Mixed); up to 7 years, Fay Cattermole (Codnor Infants), Jacqueline Stacey and Ivan Martin (Langley Mill Infants).
