Shops in Langley Mill
replied on: 2/25/2006 10:59:39 AM PaulR,The newspaper shop on Cromford Road (which we always referred to as "Limbs", was run by the Williamsons until about 1962-they had a son Ivan who went to HGS in 1959 and left the area when he was in 2nd/3rd year. Then Sandersons took over and Mr Sanderson eventually handed over the reins to son Phillip. Arthur Townsend for many yrars had a mobile shop-he used to sell from a "shooting brake"-he lived on Dunstead Road-had one daughter, Elaine, and moved into the shop early 60s. He had served in the forces in foreign parts and had an impressive collection of beautifully coloured sea shells whoch he housed in wooden cases- his "treasures" from his time spent in foreign parts. Robert, I can't recall the chip shop on Ebenezar st -I remember the shop next to the school jitty-and their home made penny ice lollies. |
