Open-casting on Hospital Site?
An area of Heanor land originally purchased as a site for an isolation Hospital is now earmarked for opencast mining.
A report before Amber Valley’s Health and General Purposes Committee stated that four parcels of land at Hoggbarn Lane, Woodlinkin, was purchased in 1929 for the section of a hospital, which was never built.
At present the land is leased to an adjacent farmer for a £6 per year rent, but the National Coal Board have indicated that they would like to purchase the area, which is in the Godkin opencast site, for opencast working.
Now the lease to the farmer is to be terminated and members agreed that the district valuer be instructed to negotiate the sale of land to the N.C.B.
