William Holbrook, stone mason
replied on: 5/1/2006 6:04:04 PM This topic covers Smalley, Codnor & Heanor, so I am posting here rather than just Heanor. I have been helping a MEE/HOLBROOK/CARRINGTON cousin with her research and I just wondered if anyone might be able to fill in any details of where this chap might have been employed.....and yes Robert, she is part of your line <g> This is what I have about William - born 1852 in Horsley Woodhouse, bapt Smalley, s/o William Holbrook & Sarah North (in 1861 census) 1871 census, at Needham Street Codnor, in household of his uncle Charles Holbrook, born in Norton - I could do with some info about Uncle Charles. 1881 census, at Cromford Road, Heanor. 1891 census, at Smalley. 1901 census, at Nottingham Road, Eastwood, Notts and he is an employer by this time, as a monumental mason. Could he have been a jobbing or journeyman mason until he set up on his own? It would be nice to put some flesh on the bones, particularly as there 'may' be a Carrington stone mason connection. |
