Old maps of the area
replied on: 6/24/2006 4:59:28 PM The easiest place I've found to view old maps, in various scales, is the Local Studies Library at Derby (or Matlock). With Ordnance Survey maps, provided they are over (I think) 70 years old, you are allowed to take photocopies, and they have the 1st and 2nd editions (and probably many more) in the 25 inch to 1 mile edition - this shows down to the position of the outside loo! Absolutely fascinating to study. The Derbyshire Library Service also do the 1900 25" map on CD Rom, which covers the whole county. If you think it is something you are likely to revisit, it is worth the expense, something over £20. You won't get anything too clear on the internet at the moment, though maybe times will change. Good hunting! |
