ACCIDENT AT LOSCOE CROSSING Bus smashes through the gates GATEKEEPER BADLY INJURED 20th April 1928 On Tuesday morning an accident which might have been attended with more serious results occurred shortly after 6.30 at Loscoe Crossing. The gates had been closed to allow the loco to pass through from the colliery side to the main line, and Mr Charles Draycott, the gatekeeper, was standing on the crossing, when a Midland General bus from Heanor direction, driven by H. Sharpe, crashed into the gates, knocking the keeper down. He sustained scalp wounds and injuries to the back of the head, and bruises about the body. The injured man was removed to his home, no 3 Granville Street (Grandfield St?) Loscoe, where he was attended by a doctor. One of the gates was smashed to pieces. The driver’s explanation is that he was prevented from seeing the gates owing to dense steam from the engine, which had just passed through the gates. Jenny |
