Have a look at,

http://www.terryblythe.co.uk/page93.html

a short history of Ormonde Colliery based on the memories of A Hudson. A Hudson started work at Ormonde Colliery when a lad. He retired as the Training Officer for Number 5 Area based at Eastwood Hall. I met him when I was started the selection phase of my NCB apprenticeship.

If you go to the Terry's home page there is more information on local to Heanor Collieries.

Bill Riley's site at,

http://www.pitwork.net

contains many pages of coal mining related items. Of particular interest is a sequence of photographs entitled "Do's and don'ts". These photographs were in a booklet issued by the Number 5 Area in the late 50's and are posssibly taken at locations in the Heanor area.

Hope the above is of interest to all especially to "them as wokked there".

regards Phil
