Khaki Joe
replied on: 8/6/2006 9:54:33 PM

Does anyone remember Khaki Joe ?

He was a painter and decorator operating in the Kimberley area in the 1960's.

He rode a brown bicycle with a ladder slung along the crossbar and paint cans hanging from the handlebars.

He always wore the same clothing, i.e. brown overalls and a khaki hat.

It was said that the only colours he would paint were brown and green, hence his nick-name.

At the time, the war memorial near what is now Sainsbury's store was painted in an unbecoming shade of olive, and was always known locally as 'Khaki Joe's Monument'.

Does anyone know Joe's real name, or can verify the truth of his alleged colour proclavities?
