Shipley Opencast Site
replied on: 8/28/2006 8:49:57 PM

On the "picturethepast" site there are some new pictures of an opencast site to the South East of Shipley Hill. The site was in operation in the late 40s. The pictures are of the site being worked and some of the people involved. The people named are Bill Hiscox, John Tomlinson, Joan Housley and Eric Porter.

My first memories of the area are from the late 50s but I cannot remember seeing any signs of the opencast working. The names may be familiar to someone.

To find the pictures just put "shipley" in to the search box and press the search button.

regards Phil
