Pubs in Cotmanhay circa 1875
replied on: 9/6/2006 11:50:08 PM

Hi, My GGGG Grandfather was a John Shorthose of 4 Church St. Cotmanhay & mentions in his Will dated 1875 that he owned, among many other properties in the area, The Brick and Tile Pub "with gardens & outbuildings in Cotmanhay now in the occupation of my son in law George Willoughby" and I wondered if this pub still exists with that name or was it changed to another name. Cotmanhay seems such a small place and the only pubs I saw certainly did not have that name. Can anyone enlighten me please? If anyone has any other interesting information/anecdotes on the Shorthose family I would be happy to hear from them. At least 3 generations lived in Church St, Cotmanhay from early 1800s to approx 1924. I already know a fair bit but any extra info would be good to have. Many thanks. Christina
