Lawrence.Where Greenhills Rd joins Mansfield Road is Durban House -now a Heritage centre, but built as the offices of the colliery owners Barber, Walker & co-which is probably where your ancestors would go to collect their wages. A little further down the road is Eastwood Hall which was the Walker family home until 1916 when it became the head offices of the Barber Walker company (now Hayley Conference centre -a virtual tour is available on the net) D.H.Lawrence and his family lived at 57 The Breach in late 1880's to 1890's - the house address has now changed to 28 Garden Road and is a museum depicting how people would have lived -there is also a studio flat available for "holiday let" Put "into the Breach" into a search engine (site dated today!)and you will find local information -plus a picture of "Breach House" (and adjoining cottages)and the interior of what was no 57- this is the row of cottages where your ancestors would have lived.[/quote]
