Mr John Ray died 27th December 1867 so the New Year Tea that was planned was postponed, there was the inauguration of the New Town Hall, the opening of the New Church with a list of who bought bibles etc, Marlpool Mill was up for sale and then for let, there was an explosion of gas at Ripley Church and the New Foundry at Langley Mill (Turner and Pender) was blown down by the bad storms!
The year was 1868 the paper “Ilkeston Pioneer”.
