Plantins Pond
replied on: 10/26/2006 5:32:31 PM

Anyone remember Plantins Pond? Thats what it was called perhaps it should have been Plantains. It was on the right of Slack Lane going towards Coppice pit in the 1930s. A favourite spot for young swimmers but notoriously dangerous because of the amount of weed in the bottom which it was said grabbed your legs and held you down. I never went myself because of the dire threats from parents concerning punishment. The local espionage would have kicked in and reported me. I do not know if it's still there. It was roughly between the visitor centre amd the industrial estate.
