Church Records

Hi FC

Was there a perticular church that you were looking for the records for?

The majority of St Lawrence's (Heanor) records are not currently online, though this is a project that is currently being worked on.

There is a website that has St Lawrence's baptisms from 1818-1884 transcribed by John Spendlove and John Wright at http://www.taghill.co.uk/ancestral/archives.html

We hope to have as much of her records online and available in book format within the next few years, once we have some of the image files from the local archives office.

Saying that - before I have to spend a forture at the archives office I don't suppose anyone has already got a list of the baptisms, marriages and funerals that they have done but not put online? If they have no objection to us borrowing them for a short time to photocopy we would be more than happy to give them the credit on the church website (coming very soon, we finally have the sitename) for the origonal transcription and if they are handwritten we will be happy to type them up.

On a related note - does anyone out there know anyone who has any copies (or even better volumes!) of the Church magazine?
So far we have access to 1890-1909 and some of the "Open door" newspapers from the 1978 rebuild and we are working on transcribing them. They are a wonderful minefield of information but are going to be complete headaches in the long run... part of the long term - project for our site will be to have a searchable database for the Baptisms marriages and funerals and links to their family members, census records and referances to them in other parts of the archives (magazines, pcc records etc)... as I said, big headache to do but once complete should be a brilliant resource.
