Heanor St. Lawrence - Empty Tomb, etc
replied on: 11/14/2006 11:52:00 PM

Hi there, sorry I did not think to see if anyone had replied to my message. Well my ancestor was Robert Shorthose who died 9th December 1806 aged 38 - that was what was carved so beautifully on the gravestone but now there is absolutely no trace of it. Four generations of the family have been linked to this Church, so much so, that I felt I had to contribute to one of the new roof tiles some 20 years ago when it was being funded! According to the Memorial Inscriptions there should also be a fragment of a stone for Sarah Shorthose (his baby daughter) who died around 1800 but I have personally never seen this. If you have any more info I would be glad to hear it. Thanks
Christina
