Some basic information on the Knights Templar follows,

Founded in Jerusalem AD 1118 by Hugh de Payens and Geoffrey de St Aumer and several other unrecorded persons.

The Templard wore linen coifs, and red caps close over them; shirts and stockings of twisted mail, a sopra vest and broad belts, with swords inserted. Over the whole was a white cloak touching the ground. In opposition to the practice of most religous orders, the Templars wore long beards.

On the 8th of January, AD 1308, the Templars in all parts of England were suddenly arrested, and thir property seized by the King. This was as the result of a Papal bull issued earlier. The Archbishop of Canterbury ordered a papal bull to be issued threatening excommunication on all those who should protect. or show the least kindness to a Templar.

Think of the statue of a knight in a church and he is dressed almost as decribed above. I have some more detailed information to read through with regard to Knights Templar. I will post on this thread any information that relates to the local area.

regards Phil
