Churchwardens, Bells & Bell-ringers
replied on: 12/29/2006 3:41:07 PM sorry I put this in the wrong place! The Ripley and Heanor News Jan 29th 1971 HEANOR CHURCH BELLS 1902 reading from right to left of the picture are the Rev. Phillips, Dr. Turton, Mr. John Holbrook (rector's warden), Rev. C.E.L. Corfield (later Canon Corfield of Taunton), Mr. T. Mayfield (people's warden), Mr T. Crook (clerk and verger), foreman of the work, and Mr. T. Hamiton (a workman). The above picture , lent by Mrs Edith P. Cope, of ---------- Crosshill, is a timely reminder of the recent appeal made for the restoration of the bells at St Lawrence's Church, Heanor. The photograph was taken when the five original bells were re-cast and the peal was increased to the full octave of eight in 1902. One of the bells was donated by the late Mr J. Holbrook, in memory of his son-in-law, Mr. H. Lovatt, who died at the early age of 27. Jenny |
