Old local sayings and superstitions

There must be lots of things we remember our parents/grandparents saying to us???

One which springs to my mind is
"never cast a clout till May is out"

Even if it was sweltering heat in May, we had to wait until June to be allowed to change from woollen vests (with sleeves) and liberty bodices into cool cotton (aertex ) underwear -or we "would die of pneumonia".
