R&H 12th march 1976
Sir- The Parochial Church Council of St Lawrence Church are concerned that the records of baptisms, burials and marriages, which date back to 1559, should be preserved in a safer and drier place than the safe in the Church and that experts should be involved in their maintenance.
They therefore propose to request the county archivist to store them, along with many other church records, in the County Library at matlock. They will be available for inspection at the County Library during normal opening times.
Heanor Local History Society support this proposal, but before we move them we want to know if there is any wide spread feeling on the subject in Heanor.-Yours etc.,
Ronald McMullen,
Priest in Charge,
St Lawrence's
