We got a nice dab, but had to give it to the officers. I am writing this while the bullets are flying, and the best way out here is to keep ducking, else it is all up with you. We now have Will Fox out here. He came with the last lot of reinforcements, and is in the pink of condition, but he would sooner be in France, as they get something to eat out there and we don't here. Please excuse writing as there are so many flies about." Pte Thossall worked at hartsay Pit . A strange coincidence is the meeting of Throssall and Fox, who are brothers in law. Pte Fox came from India with his regiment. After a short stay he went to france and fought in some of the fiercest engagements, and was seriously wounded. Whilst on furlough he married Throssall's sister. When Fox rejoined the colours he was dispatched East.[/quote]
